Music & Worship

"It is good to praise the Lord and make music to His name . . ."  Psalm 92:1 (NIV)

At First Baptist Church, we offer attendees blended worship services each Sunday. The service is blended in the more traditional direction. Our focus is on bringing honor and glory to God much more than it is on the style that is being utilized. We intentionally try to use the style and elements that we believe will give the majority of attendees the most meaningful experience of worship possible. There are several ways you can get involved with the FBC Music Ministry.

The Sanctuary Choir
Jason Haynes, Director

The main ensemble at the Downtown Campus, this group serves as worship choir for the 11:00 a.m. service each Sunday. Rehearsals for this group are from 6:30 p.m to 8:00 p.m. each Wednesday evening. Seasonal productions such as Christmas, Easter, & Patriotic Splendor are done throughout the year. The choir performs a wide variety of selections; anything from gospel songs, traditional anthems, and sacred classics to more contemporary offerings can be experienced.

Soloists & Ensembles
Jason Haynes, Coordinator

Some members of our choirs and other standing groups are also soloists and members of ensembles. They lead worship in Sunday services and are also included in special seasonal presentations. They share all kinds of sacred music, from contemporary to classical, with the congregation.

The Young At Heart Singers
Yannah Gustafson, Director

The Young at Heart Singers is one of our longest standing ensembles. This group comprises seasoned singers who enjoy getting together for good music and good company. They share worship offerings in services and have, in times past, been on tour. They meet each Wednesday evening.  Rehearsal times vary because of seasonal weather, so call the church office (225-343-0397) to learn a specific time.
