Pastor Oren Conner
Hello, my name is Oren Conner, but around here I go by Pastor Oren.
I was adopted at 6 weeks old by 2 loving, Christian parents who brought me up to know and love Jesus and his church. I grew up in Eunice, Louisiana where at age 7 I professed faith in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and was baptized in my local church. At age 15, the Lord God helped me to understand the magnitude of what He sacrificed at the cross of Jesus Christ to make me his child and the sacrifice that he requires of me as a disciple Jesus. I attended Louisiana College, which is where God began leading me toward a life committed to ministry in the local church. I served as a youth pastor for 15 years, as I attended college, seminary, and for 8 years in Natchitoches, LA. I married my beautiful wife Ginger in 1998, and we have been serving together for God’s glory since then. By God’s grace, we have been blessed with 3 incredible children who a joy to our hearts.
Since February of 2011, I have had the gracious privilege of serving as lead pastor of the First Baptist Church of Baton Rouge. I love my church and I can’t believe that I get to spend my life teaching and leading people to know Jesus Christ and to surrender their lives to him. I love my “job” and I look forward with great anticipation of the many ways in which God will bless our congregation. My hope for First Baptist Church is that we would consistently pursue to be a disciple making church, in the name of Jesus Christ our Savior, for the glory and honor of God. I pray we are a multi-generational church that seeks the good of our city as we serve with compassion and grace.
My hero is my dad. I have no greater respect for any man than my dad. He is a godly example of a faithful Christian, loving husband and father, and a servant to people. I hope to be like him one day.
I am also quite fond of a few other things in life, like sports, good books, great south Louisiana food, and the sound of my children laughing.
