Our Story
In 1874, with only eighteen charter members, God planted a beacon in Louisiana's capital city. That beacon was First Baptist Church. Its light has shown brightly for the past one hundred thirty-seven years as it delivered God's message. Emphasis has always been on sound Biblical preaching, ministries and missions. During these many decades FBC has developed and sponsored over thirty missions in the greater Baton Rouge area and South Louisiana. Several missionaries who served faithfully in foreign fields came from the ranks of the FBC family of faith.
FBC has been, and continues to be a faithful adherent to the Great Commission. Recently we sponsored two mission churches, provided strong support for international missionaries, and sent members on special summer mission trips to the Ukraine and Romania.
First Baptist Church has been a fixture in downtown Baton Rouge for over 137 years. Though our heritage is steeped in tradition, we are at the ready to do whatever is necessary as we charge forward into God's great plans for the future of our church and His Kingdom.
